Add an HDTV tuner to your PC for $29 (after rebate)

OK, so maybe now is not the best time to add a TV tuner to your PC. Thanks to those striking writers, there's not much left worth watching, time-shifting, or recording. Still, the day will come when Battlestar Galactica, Lost, and 30 Rock come back to us, so it's best to be ready.
I was pretty stoked about that Viore HDTV tuner from a couple weeks ago, but I found an even better deal: the KWorld PlusTV HD Hybrid Stick 330. This USB tuner can pull in analog signals from the precious cable-TV cable or digital over-the-air HD broadcasts from the included antenna (though you're almost always better off with a set of rabbit ears or an outdoor antenna). Let me tell you, once you've tasted the sweet, sweet nectar of free high-def television, it's hard to stomach that cable bill.
The PlusTV doesn't come with a remote, but it does include an additional input for capturing video from analog sources (like VCRs). Plus, it's compatible with Windows Media Center. The tuner will set you back $69 plus shipping, but there's a $40 mail-in rebate. PCs make awesome DVRs; now's your chance to experience it on the (super) cheap.

Adjust new HDTV\'s before the big game

Matt Straub of H.H. Gregg has heard the complaint from HDTV owners again and again.
So has Best Buy's Brittany Linde.
"This picture doesn't look anything like it did in the store."
It probably doesn't.
Many new high-definition television owners don't realize that simply owning one of these fabulous pieces of technology isn't enough. You have to buy some sort of receiver to pull HD signals to your TV. You have to buy a DVD player ? and DVDs ? that play in high-def. And even after you do all that, you still won't see everything in high-def because not every channel broadcasts in HD, and those that do, don't broadcast every show in HD.
Perhaps more troubling, sometimes programs not in high-def look worse on your new TV than they did on your old.

Advances in HDTV technology, car gadgets are on display

LAS VEGAS -- Innovators at the International Consumer Electronics Show are hard at work getting their devices inside the family car.
New for the car
One theme: development of touch-screen and voice-activated controls for portable devices. Cars are showing systems that let people make phone calls, navigate, choose music and have e-mails read to them without dangerously fumbling for manual controls.
Autonet Mobile offers a small box for car trunks that takes a cellular broadband signal and uses Wi-Fi to relay it to portable computers in the car, so people can browse the Internet in the vehicle. "The car is a lifestyle product," said Sterling Pratz, Autonet Mobile's CEO. "It's not just a car anymore."
